The state of the art about BIM in Europe at an international congress on the model of collaborative work of architecture and industry will be discussed in Barcelona on 18 and 19 February 2016

BIM is an abbreviation of Building Information Model (Building Information Modeling). From this centralized information model of a building or infrastructure, architects, engineers, developers, builders, maintainers and consultants can work together, share information, check inconsistencies, detect inconsistencies and improve collaboration. In short, control efficiently the process of design, construction and operation of what we are going to build.

BIM models also can be used to generate listings measurements and materials, as listed automatic generation of any material or product. This allows the architect and building professionals to focus more on the design phase and its continuity with construction and operation phases. BIM process is currently used by over 500,000 architects, interior designers and building professionals all over the world.

BIM 2016 European Summit, the European BIM Summit in Barcelona

Following the success of the first summit, the second edition of European BIM Summit will take place on 18 and 19 February 2016 in Barcelona organized by CAATEEB, BIM Academy and a new partner, buildingSMART Spanish Chapter. The meeting, to be held at the World Trade Center in Barcelona, will offer presentations and workshops, which will analyse the various tools, services and products for professionals in this field. The most interesting best practices on BIM experiences and the latest developments of this new working method based on the management of information generated during the lifecycle of a construction will be presented.

Speakers include Australian Bilal Succar, considered one of the world think-leaders and strategic BIM consultant that will show the results of his latest research on the introduction and maturity of BIM in different countries of the world; American Brian Skripac, architect and executive from CannonDesign; Finnish Tomi Henttinen, president of buildingSMART Finland or David Cano, BIM Coordinator of Nou Espai Barça by FC Barcelona, among many other experts from around the world.

This second edition, after the first experience, has two very interesting innovations: first is that UK will participate as guest country -each session has a British representative because Great Britain is the country that in April 2016 will be declared “BIM country”. The second innovation is the creation of a Marketplace, a space that will put in contact experts in BIM with companies looking for these profiles.

European BIM Summit www.europeanbimsummit.com has a new Honorary Committee composed of different personalities representing the world of business, politics and construction in a national and international level, having S.M. King Felipe VI, the Ministry of Development, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, buildingSMART International, the Association for European Building Surveyors and Construction Experts-AEEBC, the Conference of Rectors of the European Universities and the creator of the concept of three-dimensional modeling of a space, the Hungarian Gabor Bojar, President of Graphisoft SE.

This committee is complemented by a new Strategic Committee for the European BIM Summit which currently consists of 41 institutions, organizations and associations like AIA-American Institute of Architects (BIM Forum), Association of Developers and Builders, Associated General Contractors of America, Barcelona d’Infrastructures Municipals, SA (BIM / SA), Chamber of Contractors of Catalonia, Professional Associations of Engineering and Architecture, National Confederation of Construction, Directorate General of Architecture, European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) and the European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations (EFCA), among others.

In 2014, a new EU Directive requires the engagement of agents and construction professionals with the public administration to implement BIM as a collaborative process in order to increase the Building sector productivity, efficiency and transparency and the Building Sector should start deploying BIM throughout the life cycle of a building, from tendering to construction.
